We call this work Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP). A collaborative
effort between a licensed clinical professional and a horse professional,
EAP is an experiential therapeutic modality using horses to elicit emotional
growth and learning.
EAP is not horsemanship or riding. It is mainly ground activities involving horses that require clients to demonstrate certain skills, such as creative thinking, honesty, verbal and non-verbal communication, responsibility, assertiveness, problem-solving, leadership, teamwork, relationships, confidence, and attitude.
EAP is currently being effectively used for problems related
to: behaviour, self-esteem, eating disorders, chemical dependency, family,
couples, psychological disorders, parenting, young offenders, abuse
survivors, violent behaviour and more. |
